Import your full Garmin history
Updated November 1, 2026
Garmin only lets us read the last 30 days through its connection. Everything older comes through Garmin’s own data export, which Shape reads directly.
Import it
- 1
Open the import on the web
Go to Settings → Connections and pick Import your full Garmin history under Garmin. This part is web only.
- 2
Request your export
Press Request from Garmin, or go straight to Garmin’s export page. Garmin emails you a link, usually within a day.
- 3
Drop the .zip in the same place
The import runs on its own and takes a few minutes for a long history. You can close the page while it works.
What comes across
Every activity with its map and heart rate trace, plus your sleep and daily health history. If you haven’t filled in your max heart rate, threshold pace or FTP yet, Shape fills them in from Garmin’s measurements.
If it doesn't work
- The file has to be a .zip. If Safari or Finder unpacked it into a folder, right-click the folder and choose Compress.
- The import needs an active subscription or trial.
- If it failed, the upload is cleared, so drop the same .zip in again.
Your privacy
Garmin’s export holds much more than training data, like your home address, phone number and order history. Your browser picks out only your workouts, daily health data and training thresholds, plus your gender and birth year, and uploads just those. Everything else stays on your computer, and the upload is deleted once the import is done.
Running it again
It’s safe. Workouts you already have are updated in place rather than duplicated, so a fresh export a year from now just tops up what changed.
